They're Here!

Ladies and Gentleman, may I proudly introduce the newest members to the Kew Household,

Laverne and Shirley

My long awaited Christmas present from Martin has finally arrived. They're surprisingly beautiful and I actually missed them today! They don't do very much at the moment. Eat and drink and peck around and poo. This cage might look a little sad but it is only for the first few days so they get use to their home, finding their food and where they should go to sleep and lay eggs. We can then let them out and give them full access to our garden. So far they haven't laid any eggs but they should start in a few weeks time. Laverne is the more aggressive and social of the two (she is the one on the left). She will willingly take food from your hand but might peck you along the way. Shirley won't get anywhere near you and wouldn't come down from the hutch the first day until I gave her a little nudge. Now she is okay. Yesterday we were so proud as they walked up the stairs and put themselves to bed. The first night we had to put a flashlight in their hutch as they are attracted by the light to get them to go up as they didn't seem have any interest in going up on their own. As these are my very first pets-except for the stray cat we named once-I am very very excited and don't even mind cleaning up their poo and waking up a little early to make sure they have everything they need. As far as chicken coops go theirs is very posh and these will be some spoiled chickens. I know some of you think we have gone a bit mad and wonder how this would all work but I assure you, it has all worked out very very well.

More pictures to come-promise! Instead of being one of those couples who only talk about their children, we now talk a lot about our chickens. Come and meet them for yourselves!
