Three Little Pigs

In what I am sure we will look back on as a milestone in our life, Martin and I picked up our three British Lop piglets on Sunday and brought them to their new home in Horsebridge.

It was a long journey to get here but probably happened a lot quicker than we imagined. We only moved into our new home in the Hampshire countryside two weeks ago. We have spent those two weeks, unpacking, digging up the garden, painting, decorating, erecting fences, building pig arks, commuting to London and back again, getting ready.

People told us it would be hard work. We knew to expect it to be hard work. It is physically, mentally and emotionally exhausting. But it is also fun and rewarding. There is an actual payoff for our hard work that we can see, and it makes all the blood, sweat and tears (literally!) worth it.

I don't think we have had a chance really to sit back and reflect on our transition. We have been so busy that we haven't spent any time to stop and think about what we have done. We are lucky in that we have been sheltered from the shock of leaving busy London filled with lots of our friends due to the very very very local support of our family. Having Janice, Andy, Henry, Camilla, Colin and Carol just up the road has been a massive benefit and their company and support has made the transition for us all the more easier.

Commuting into London once a week hasn't proven to be terrible. It has perhaps provided me with company that I haven't realised I miss and need and I have had a great time being a tourist in a city I once called home. But when I am in London, I can only think about getting back, anxious to keep going. Keen to start the next phase.

I am really proud of us. Martin called us do-ers the other day. I have always wanted to be a do-er! It feels good to take control of our lives and depend on our hard work and dedication to build our future. It seems very bright and full of possibilities.

So welcome little pigs! We like to think they are much happier here than where they were staying before. They dig around the garden, snorting up all the apples they can find and any other nutrients buried in the dirt. The first night they seemed too excited to sleep and didn't even make it into the nice home Martin and his dad built. But today they seem on track and are inside where it is nice and warm.

Chickens seems a little skeptical of the pigs. They are probably jealous. We still love them and lets be honest, they will be around for a lot longer. We want to get a couple more and maybe a cat. Best to try and keep the rats away, although our neighbour's cat, Elvis, does his part to get the job done. As do the beautiful barn owls that goes hunting at dusk.

Now all we need are visitors! Surely you find all these beautiful pictures tempting!
