My very first organic fruit and veg box

And I love it! I had been toying with the idea of getting a box of locally grown organic fruits and vegetables delivered to my house every couple of weeks but had previously decided not to due to cost. But recently I have been thinking about this planet I like to call home and decided that it was worth the few extra pounds. Boy oh boy am I hooked. It arrived yesterday and already my vegetable intake has doubled. Like last night, I had broccoli with no sauce on it! Granted there was some home made and delicious mac and cheese very close by on the plate but having spent so much on this box (and it really isn't that much. Works out to be 5 pounds a week) I would feel guilty if I didn't eat everything they put in it. Plus, I can tell them to omit things I hate, like eggplant, and include more of the things I love, like avocado. And they include recipes with my box AND I can go on the website for more recipe ideas. For example, they included parsnips in this weeks box. Gross. But then I looked them up and I can combine them with some potatoes and garlic and make some mash. Or I can make what looks like some yummy black bean chili. I can't wait! This may seem like a silly thing to get excited about but I have been cooking so much lately and I want to get good at it. ( I have also been knitting like a mad woman and have the tired thumb to prove it) So, eat organic and locally. It is good for you, it is good for the farmer and it is good for the environment.

Yum! Matt and I have been eating a lot of broccoli lately and we're really into it. We steam it for 3 minutes with the lid on, then take the lid partially off and steam for about 7 more minutes. When it's soft, take it out and put a little butter, salt and pepper and a squeeze of lemon. It is so tasty! We can't get enough...and I never thought I would say that!
I've thought about doing that box thing. Hmmmm.

Yeah, the eggplant would get to me too! Sounds like a wonderful idea for you. You're starting to sound a bit British, i.e. the term "mash".
