Girls who run with their hair down

How do they do this? I see these girls running in the park with the hair trailing freely behind them, uninhibited by a hair restraint of some sort. I could never do this. I find it interesting.

I run the marathon on Monday and although I have mostly been nervous about the race lately, today I got excited. I read some FAQs on the official website and started raising money for Little Orchids and I remembered why I wanted to do this stupid marathon in the first place. Now I am looking forward to it! And I just made chocolate oats which are f*&king delicious and I have convinced myself they will make an excellent pre-race snack as it has oatmeal and peanut butter which should give me oodles of energy, not to mention the half ton of sugar! I leave tomorrow morning, very very early, and have my last run today. I should actually do a run Sunday but we'll see if that actually happens. Anyway, keep me in your thoughts Monday and if you haven't already, donate!

Rugby: England vs France

I watched my first ever Rugby match yesterday, which happened to be the semi-finals for the Rugby World Cup. It was England against France and England won! People were very excited. England has not been playing well in any major sport so everyone was delighted that FINALLY they were winning again. People were also excited because the English HATE the French, and vice versa. Fans took great delight in beating them. It was fun. I had no idea what was going on at first. They seem to just throw the ball and then get in a big man pile and then throw it again and then get in a big man pile again. And occasionally kick it. But once the rules were explained to me it made more sense. These rugby players were huge! And I have to say, watching a bunch of good looking, fit men run around and act tough was not the worst thing I have ever seen. Anyway, the atmosphere in London was jolly last night. England also beat Estonia in football yesterday so it was a good day for the English!

Sailing

This weekend I went sailing for the first time. I had a sneaky suspicion I would like it and I really did! We left Friday night and sailed to the Isle of Wight, a little island just off the coast of England. As it was dark when we got left there wasn't much to see however it was a good introduction for the days ahead.

As with all things when doing out door events in England, weather was a concern but luckily we had great weather. Saturday morning we woke to a foggy sky but the clouds quickly parted and we had a beautiful, if not a little chilly, sunny day.

We set off for the Needles, the Isle of Wight's claim to fame. They were pretty impressive. I am glad I got to see them from a different perspective as I am sure if you just got to see them from land they would have seemed kind of boring. We sailed around them and then off to some more rocky waters, where I got sea sick. I actually had been fine for most of Saturday but I made the mistake of going below deck when we were tacking and after that I felt pretty ill. I threw up all over the side of the boat and had to spend the rest of the day focusing on a light house on the island. It was a pity as I was really enjoying myself. The wind was pretty good and the boat was sailing almost completely on its side. If you were to look at it it might seem scary but it really wasn't at all. Once we got back to shore I felt much much better and didn't get sick again after that.

Sunday we just kind of cruised around and a couple of the boys I was with took a dip in the sea and attached themselves to a rope while we pulled them with the engine on. It looked like fun but very very cold.

Cruised in Sunday evening and now I am sitting on my couch with a cold/flu, can't decide which. I had it most of the trip too which was a bummer but it could have been much worse. Sniff.

Owwwwwa

This weekend I finally ran my 19 miles. It hurt. I felt good about the run. I managed a steady pace and didn't try to rush myself and just kept in mind that I was going to be running for a long time. But after about an hour and a half my legs started to stage a protest. The thing about running is you can't stop. Once you do your legs cramp up something awful and the rest of your run is ruined. If you can manage to keep moving then sometimes you enjoy brief periods of almost pain free running. I only had to stop once at a stop light so that was good. The bad was I lost my Giants running visor. I took it off to peel off a layer and forgot to put it back on. I am very sad. After the run I walked for about 20 minutes and that by far was the most painful part. I wanted to cry. I am praying I don't cry at the marathon. I can see how I might. Anyway, I have been told my legs will feel better after I start to taper so I am looking forward to that. I will also soon be campaigning to raise money for Stinky's mom's charity so be prepared, an e-mail asking for your support will soon be on its way!

I am still looking for a job. It sucks.
